09/20/2010 letter

Hey Yall!!

I'm in a companionship of three now.  It's me and Elder Smart and Elder Hansen here in Myrtle beach.

I would just like to send out a nice warm Howdy do from Myrtle Beach. My new area is pretty sweet, we are working really hard and doing all we can to baptize everyone we possible can here. We just moved into a new apartment, that is much much nicer than the other one that they were living in. It was kind of a pain in the
butt because in the other apartment it was pretty much all stairs everywhere. You had to go up one big flight of stairs to get to the main part of the apartment then you had to go up another big flight of stairs to get into the bedroom where all of our stuff was so it was really fun moving a washer and dryer and all of our furniture (even a hide a bed) down all of those stinkin stairs. Our new apartment I would have to say is the nicest one I have had on my mission we have pictures of the apostles and stuff that we have decorated it with. So i got a funny story for you guys. The night we moved in we were all talking in an english accent- I dont know why-but anyways we were coming in late that night cause we forgot some things over at the other apartment and our neighbor was just walking in from work. Her name is Shelby and she's probably 22 or 23ish. she was totally diggin the English Accent she wanted to hang out with us and everything it was way funny. but later that night we needed some laundry detergent so we could wash our sheets. So we went over and knocked on her door and asked if we could borrow some. haha she asked where we were from and everything. we told her buckinghamshire, England. Its like 20 min north of London. we have an investigator from there. thats where we got it from. but she totally believed us. then we were thinking about how we are planning on teaching her... we're not planning on teaching the Gospel in an English Accent ya know. but anyways we ended up telling her we were kidding and that we are all from Utah. hopefully we will be able to teach them this week!

We are really working on making everything the most effective and best use of our time. We got us a new map made and all the members all dotted up on there so that we can go see them and teach all of their friends etc. We have been talking with our ward mission leader bro. Jennings about a lot of different things, it is really nice to have a ward mission leader who is really excited about the work. He really wants to help and do all that he can to help the ward to see success. Elder Smart actually started his mission off here in this ward and so a lot of the people know him. That has really helped us out to really start working with the members and stuff they are all very excited to have us over. In fact one of the members of the bishopric Bro. Smith has a kid that he taught when he was in high school, his name is John Cooney and we taught him over at the Smiths house last night. It was the best lesson Ever!!! The spirit was really strong with them members right there to really bear pure testimony and just show how the gospel works in their lives. We are going over there again tonight to have a family home evening with John and the Smith family and some girls who have actually been kind of less active for a little bit. So we are going to get John baptized and get the girls back into full activity and get them excited about the gospel. I cant tell you how much better missionary work is when the members are the ones who find people to teach. One thing that president McConkie has talked to us a lot about lately and it was news to me that we as missionaries do not have the keys to finding people to teach so knocking on doors and tracting are really ineffective. If everything were to run how it should we would just go from teaching appointment to teaching appointment at members homes teaching people that they had shared the gospel with. So haha if you are not sharing the gospel and finding people to teach you are not doing your part to help the church grow and to find those souls who are in desperate need of the gospel. Missionary work is the bomb haha so go out and do it members are the key to success without their help we cant really do anything and nothing will ever get done!

Haha well i love you all and hope all is going well. I hope this letter wants to make you go out and do some missionary work.
Love,
Elder Adam Fitzgerald
